Discover the art and pleasure of creating your own decorative papers for use in book arts, collage, printmaking, card-making, and other creative pursuits.

In this hands-on introductory workshop, participants will explore pastepaper making — a vibrant, versatile surface-design process dating to the 16th century that uses remarkably low-tech materials to achieve a wide range of decorative effects. Using tools such as paint brushes, sponges, combs, stamps, scrub brushes, and other found objects, participants will apply and manipulate the pastepaper medium to build single and multi-layered patterns across a variety of paper surfaces.

No previous experience is necessary. This is a mightily forgiving process that allows for layering, scrape-downs, and re-application at nearly every step; encouraging discovery and exploration without fear of mistakes. Working on fine-art, commercial and found paper samples, the approach will be experimental, playful, and creatively driven.
